Hello!
Thank you you for the interest in learning more about the project.
My name is Kyle and I am the creator of Augustinus Vox. I am based out of Des Moines, Iowa. I created this project because I enjoy technology, theology, music and church history. I am a Christian and hold a form of Christianity which I would categorize as broadly irenic, theologically orthodox and historically aware. I like to think of myself as someone trying to capture a mere Christian approach in the spirit of C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity or G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy. If you want a music example, I really admire the approaches of Michael Card and John Michael Talbot in their project called Brother to Brother and the late Rich Mullins in his project with Mitch McVicker entitled The Canticle of the Plains. In addition to these musical folks, I was also significantly influenced by the music of Petra, Fernando Ortega, Stryper, The O.C. Supertones, Weird Al and The Muppets (yes you read that last one correct). One of favorite concerts to watch is this one by Rich Mullins where I even appreciate the sound issues.
Formally, I associate as a EFCA Protestant and regularly attend, and am a member of, an EFCA church (Evangelical Free Church of America). This tends to land me in the broadly evangelical Protestant stream. This said, I also have significant sympathies to both The Roman Catholic Church and The Eastern Orthodox Church and I have very close friends and family who are serious members of those streams of Christian faith whom I respect a great deal. Theological conversations and an exploration of differences of Christian expression are a welcomed and regular part of the normal cadence of my life and rhythm of faith. I hope you find with me and in the project a combination of dogmatic seriousness and theological generosity combined with a bit of levity and humor. I aim to take myself as unseriously as the level of my ignorance.
I suppose I should also share here a little about my favorite works of Augustine. So the very first book of Saint Augustine I experienced was On Christian Doctrine. It is a very cool and challenging work about how to study the bible. I also occasionally try to read Augustine’s On The Trinity and am incredibly familiar with the introduction of that work because I can’t seem to get farther than that. Confessions, of course, is a classic and everyone should experience it read by Simon Vance. I once got through City of God while cleaning toilets and scrubbing floors but all I can recall is stories about people throwing themselves into rivers, long discussions of pagan deities and endless talk of Gog and Magog so please don’t ask me about that one.
You can find out more about the project in this helpful set of YouTube videos where I talk more about the project by going through portions of this website.
Disclaimer: The videos are unedited and unscripted to create a kind of counter balance to all the polished AI content so be prepared for a slightly silly and immensely boring human experience.
I plan to go through the entire website eventually.
