Song Meaning
“Ambrosian Creed” gives the album’s central confession a direct musical form. Rather than surrounding the creed with many additional images, the song sings its contents: God the Father Almighty, Jesus Christ the divine Son, his birth from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, his suffering, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, future judgment, the Holy Spirit, the Church, forgiveness, resurrection of the flesh, and everlasting life. The recurring hook adds the song’s distinctive interpretation: faith must rise out of love, and love must guard the truth. This does not reduce doctrine to emotion. It presents love as the proper way to hold the creed faithfully, without letting its words become cold or empty.
