Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I carried him in silence, wrapped in white

The one I loved more than breath or light

No blemish on his soul, no stain on his name

An offering to God, through fire and flame

[Verse 2]

My brother, my strength, my dearest friend

I saw the road, I knew the end

And though my heart breaks in the shadow of loss

I lay him down at the foot of the cross

[Pre-Chorus]

Let tears fall as incense

Let grief rise as prayer

I give what was given—

He was never mine to bear

[Chorus]

This is the offering I bring

Not gold or myrrh, but suffering

My praise through pain, my love through loss

My song beneath a heavy cross

This is the offering I bring

[Bridge – Sung, gentle but ascending melody]

He was Yours before he was mine

A gift for a time, a light that shined

So take him, Lord, into Your rest

And let me trust that You know best

[Final Chorus – Stronger instrumentation, layered vocals]

This is the offering I bring

Not gold or myrrh, but suffering

My praise through pain, my love through loss

My song beneath a heavy cross

This is the offering I bring

This is the offering I bring

Song Meaning

“The Offering I Bring” opens the album with grief carried to God as an offering. In Saint Ambrose’s On the Death of Satyrus, Ambrose calls his brother his offering: undefiled, pleasing to God, and now returned to the One who gave him. The song follows that difficult act of faith. Ambrose does not pretend that love makes death easy. He mourns Satyrus deeply, yet he also knows that his brother was never finally his to keep. The offering in this track is not gold, triumph, or calm detachment. It is suffering itself: praise through pain, love through loss, and trust beneath a heavy cross. The song begins the album in holy surrender, with a grieving heart saying that what was most precious must still be entrusted to God.
