Song
Everywhere Within
From the album: On the Immortality of the Soul
Lyrics
[Intro – bold guitar riff, steady drum build]
[Verse 1]
Every breath, every part of me,
Carried strong in the mystery.
From head to heel, the life runs through,
The soul is here in all I do.
[Pre-Chorus]
No divide can tear apart,
Wholeness burns in every heart—
[Chorus]
Everywhere within, the fire remains,
Stronger than flesh, deeper than pain.
Whole in every part, alive in the skin,
The soul can’t die, it’s everywhere within.
[Verse 2]
Hands may tremble, eyes grow dim,
But the light is burning still within.
Every nerve, every silent thread,
Still alive when the body’s dead.
[Pre-Chorus]
No decay can make it fall,
The living flame runs through it all—
[Chorus]
Everywhere within, the fire remains,
Stronger than flesh, deeper than pain.
Whole in every part, alive in the skin,
The soul can’t die, it’s everywhere within.
[Solo – blazing guitar solo, full band surging]
[Bridge – sung]
I’m more than bone, more than breath,
More than the silence they call death.
The soul endures, it can’t be undone,
Alive forever, it carries on.
[Chorus]
Everywhere within, the fire remains,
Stronger than flesh, deeper than pain.
Whole in every part, alive in the skin,
The soul can’t die, it’s everywhere within.
[Chorus]
Everywhere within, the fire remains,
Stronger than flesh, deeper than pain.
Whole in every part, alive in the skin,
The soul can’t die, it’s everywhere within.
[Outro – no fade, final chord crash, sustained guitar scream to close the album]
Song Meaning
“Everywhere Within” comes directly from Augustine’s striking account of how the soul is present in the body. A body occupies space by having one part here and another part there. The soul, however, is not distributed in that manner. When the foot is injured, the whole person is aware of it: the eyes respond, the tongue speaks, and the hand moves toward the wound. Augustine concludes that the soul is wholly present to the body as a whole and wholly present to each living part, without being divided into spatial pieces. The song turns that idea into an image of life running through the entire person. The soul is not a small object hidden in one organ. Its presence is known through the unified life and awareness by which the body acts as one living whole.
Song Inspiration
Saint Augustine’s On the Immortality of the Soul, especially its teaching that the soul is wholly present in the whole body and wholly present to each living part.
