Song
Truth Cannot Perish
From the album: Soliloquies
Lyrics
[Intro – synth drone, low toms, gradual guitar swell]
[Verse 1]
If the world should fall away,
Stars consumed, the night will stay,
Still one voice will never die—
Truth remains beyond the sky.
[Pre-Chorus]
Every shadow, every flame,
Fades, but Truth is still the same.
[Chorus]
Truth cannot perish, it will endure,
Even when all else is unsure.
Truth cannot perish, forever it stands,
Written eternal by unseen hands.
[Verse 2]
If the frame of things should break,
Still the soul its stand will take.
Every science, every line,
Holds the mark of the divine.
[Pre-Chorus]
Every doubt the night has cast,
Falls before the light at last.
[Chorus]
Truth cannot perish, it will endure,
Even when all else is unsure.
Truth cannot perish, forever it stands,
Written eternal by unseen hands.
[Bridge – guitar solo over chorus chords; synth choir rising]
[Final Chorus – layered harmonies, full band]
Truth cannot perish, it will endure,
Even when all else is unsure.
Truth cannot perish, forever it stands,
Written eternal by unseen hands.
[Outro – slow guitar bends, fading synth pad, heartbeat kick]
Song Meaning
“Truth Cannot Perish” turns one of the Soliloquies’ central arguments into a declaration. Augustine and Reason ask whether truth could ever cease to be. If the world perished, it would still be true that the world had perished. If someone tried to say that truth itself had perished, that claim would still need truth in order to be true. Therefore truth cannot perish. The song takes that reasoning and gives it emotional force. Stars, worlds, sciences, and visible forms may fail, but truth remains beyond their collapse. This is not abstract cleverness for Augustine. It matters because the soul longs for something stable, something not swallowed by time. The track is about discovering a foundation deeper than uncertainty: truth endures, and because truth endures, the soul has reason to hope.
Song Inspiration
Saint Augustine’s Soliloquies, especially its argument that truth cannot perish, because even the claim that truth had perished would require truth.
