“Eternal Maker” adapts Ambrose’s Aeterne rerum conditor, a morning hymn praising God as the ruler of night, day, and the ordered passage of time. The rooster’s cry becomes both a natural announcement of dawn and a spiritual summons to wakefulness. In Ambrose’s hymn, it drives away error, strengthens sailors, calms the sea, restores hope to the fallen, and recalls Peter, the rock of the Church, whose guilt was washed away through repentance after the rooster crowed.
