Song Meaning
“Seal of Oil” reflects the post-baptismal anointing described in Ambrose’s teaching on the mysteries. Fragrant oil signifies that the newly baptized belongs to Christ and receives a consecrating gift. Ambrose’s cited passage speaks of oil upon the head, recalling Aaron and the fragrance of resurrection; it does not specify the forehead. The production cue “Spirit Upon the Forehead” should therefore be heard as imaginative visual staging, not as a literal quotation of Ambrose’s ritual directions. The track’s warm pads, gentle chimes, and recurring motif avoid triumphal spectacle and suggest a blessing quietly received.
