Song Meaning
"White Garment" meditates on the clothing of the newly baptized as a sign of cleansing and new life. Ambrose addresses those who have come from the font clothed in brightness, using visible white garments to teach the inward renewal baptism signifies. The music begins with lightness and little weight, then gathers warmth as if the garment is being placed around the shoulders. Its final repeated motif suggests the radiant days in which the newly baptized continued to receive instruction and worship with the Church.
