Song Meaning
“Psalms for the Journey (Instrumental)” imagines the sound of Milan’s Church traveling in Augustine’s memory. In Confessions Book 9, he recalls being deeply moved by hymns and canticles whose words entered his ears, carried truth into his heart, and released tears of devotion. The episode belongs especially to his memories of worship and baptism at Milan, not to a documented report that particular psalms were sung continuously on the road to Ostia. The track transforms that remembered experience into a wordless traveling hymn. Reverent piano and sustained textures suggest sacred melodies recalled inwardly, while the road rhythm keeps prayer joined to movement. The absence of vocals is important: the listener hears not the original texts but their enduring spiritual effect. Milan has been left behind, yet its sung faith continues to accompany the company, giving weariness a rhythm and making memory itself a form of prayer.
Song Inspiration
Augustine’s Confessions Book 9, chapters 6–7, where the hymns and canticles of the Milanese Church carry truth into his heart and move him to tears of devotion.

How much I wept during your hymns and songs, sharply moved by the voices of your Church sounding sweetly! Those voices flowed into my ears, truth melted into my heart, and from there an affection of devotion boiled up; tears ran, and all was well with me in them.
Then it was instituted that hymns and psalms be sung in the manner of the Eastern regions, lest the people waste away through weariness of sorrow.
