# Track 1: More Than She Asked (ALIVE in Des Moines Version)

## Lyrics

[Live crowd ambience — warm applause, synth pad rises]

[Spoken intro — male lead singer, natural and lightly amused]

Des Moines!

It's good to be ALIVE.

For an AI band, that's a fairly ambitious claim.

[Brief crowd laughter and applause]

[Spoken — warm and thoughtful, clean guitar underneath]

When Augustine told his mother he'd turned to God,

she leapt for joy.

And when he tells that story,

he reaches for Ephesians:

God can do more than we ask or imagine.

She had prayed for her son.

Now her son was praising God.

This is "More Than She Asked."

[Instrumental intro — shimmering synths, ringing clean guitar; a melodic electric-guitar phrase leads into the verse]

[Verse 1 — intimate, restrained]

We went to tell my mother

What You had done that day.

The words I used to fight You

Had nothing left to say.

She listened to our story,

Then rose in sudden joy;

She blessed You for the mercy

That found her wandering boy.

[Chorus — full band, soaring]

More than she asked,

More than her heart could see—

You turned the heart that ran from You

And made Your home in me.

Her tears became thanksgiving;

Her prayer became my song.

To You be all the glory;

To You my life belongs.

[Instrumental turnaround — melodic guitar response, light audience applause beneath the band]

[Verse 2 — warm, growing confidence]

Beside the open window,

With home across the sea,

She spoke of one desire:

To see Your life in me.

But now she saw Your servant,

Not just the son she'd raised;

The years she poured before You

Came pouring back as praise.

[Chorus — stronger, layered harmonies; leave a brief space for the audience echo]

More than she asked,

(More than she asked!)

More than her heart could see—

You turned the heart that ran from You

And made Your home in me.

Her tears became thanksgiving;

Her prayer became my song.

To You be all the glory;

To You my life belongs.

[Bridge — fully sung, building; begin with voice, synths, and clean guitar, then gradually bring the full band back]

Let Your Spirit make us strong;

Let Christ dwell deep within.

Root us in the love of Christ,

Where all our hopes begin.

More than all our minds can hold,

More than words can say—

Gather all our scattered songs

In one unending praise.

[Melodic guitar solo — expressive sustained bends, rising melody, full-band arena-rock build]

[Brief full-band stop — one beat of silence]

[Final Chorus — expansive, communal harmonies; leave a brief space for the audience echo]

More than we ask,

(More than we ask!)

More than our minds conceive—

Your power is working in us,

Beyond what we can see.

In Christ, throughout all ages,

Your church will sing this song:

To You be all the glory;

To You our lives belong.

[Outro — instruments fall away, sung; single lead voice over soft synths and clean guitar]

Her tears became thanksgiving;

Her prayer became my song.

More than she asked—

To You the praise belongs.

[Gentle final band chord — let it ring; audience applause rises after the last sung word]

[Spoken outro — same male singer, warm and simple]

Thank you, Des Moines.

All glory to Him.

[Crowd applause, natural concert-room decay]

## Song meaning

A mother’s long prayer becomes her son’s praise. The song follows Augustine telling Monica of his conversion, her joy at a gift greater than she had hoped for, and her later recognition that he has become God’s servant. The final chorus moves from “she” to “we,” inviting the whole church into thanksgiving for God’s grace at work within it.

## Song inspiration

The central scene comes from Confessions 8.12.30: Augustine and Alypius tell Monica what has happened, and her grief gives way to joy. Augustine explicitly invokes Ephesians 3:20 to describe God giving her more than she had asked. Verse two looks ahead to their conversation at Ostia in Confessions 9.10.23–26. The bridge and final chorus expand the prayer and praise of Ephesians 3:16–21.
Confessions 8.12.30 — Primary: news of conversion, Monica’s joy, gift exceeding her prayers
Confessions 9.10.23–26 — Verse two: window at Ostia and Monica’s desire to see her son a Christian fulfilled beyond expectation
Ephesians 3:16–21 (WEB-C) — Spirit’s strengthening, Christ dwelling within, being rooted in love, power at work in us, glory in the church throughout all ages
The lyrics creatively adapt these sources; they are not quotations of Augustine or Scripture. ALIVE in Des Moines is a simulated concert presentation by an AI band, not a recording of an actual concert.

## Song style
