Song Meaning
“Blessed Light, O Trinity” adapts Ambrose’s O lux beata Trinitas, a short evening hymn addressed directly to the Trinity as blessed light and sovereign unity. As the fiery sun descends, the worshiper asks God to pour divine light into the heart. The fading of earthly daylight does not leave the believer in darkness because Father, Son, and Holy Spirit remain the unchanging source of illumination. Ambrose joins morning and evening worship together: God is praised at the beginning of the day, invoked again as night approaches, and glorified through every age.
