Song Meaning
“Eyes of the Mind” draws from one of the clearest images in the Soliloquies: the soul has eyes, but those eyes must be healed before they can see God. Reason compares God to the sun, not as a visible object, but as the light by which intelligible things can be known. The mind needs purity, direction, and vision. Augustine is told that faith, hope, and love are necessary for this healing: faith trusts that the light is real, hope believes the soul can be healed, and love desires the light itself. The song turns that teaching into prayer. The inner eye is weak, wounded, and easily pulled back toward darkness, yet it can be strengthened. This track is about learning to see by truth, not merely by sight, and about love fixing the soul’s gaze on God.
