Song Meaning
"Renuntio" takes its name from the Latin declaration "I renounce." Drawing on the baptismal pattern explained by Ambrose, the candidate turns away from the old dominion of sin before turning toward the light of faith. The track's three separated strikes suggest a repeated and deliberate refusal: not a rejection of creation, but of whatever keeps the soul enslaved. Augustine's conversion had already required painful departures from ambition, pride, and divided desire. Here that inward struggle becomes ritual movement. The darker opening faces what must be left behind; the widening harmony marks the turn toward the east. Emotionally, the song moves from tension to freedom. Renunciation is not presented as emptiness. It clears a space in which the heart can finally say yes to God.
