Soliloquy (Piano Sessions Version)
From the release: Piano Sessions
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Here I stand with questions raw,
Every flaw before Your law.
Reason spoke, and still I see,
All I need is found in Thee.
[Pre-Chorus]
Strip my doubts, my pride away,
Lead me to eternal day.
[Chorus]
O God, hear my cry,
Lift my soul to the endless sky.
All I am, I give to You,
In the light, my heart is true.
[Verse 2]
Every tear and every pain,
Finds its meaning in Your name.
Every shadow turns to flame,
When Your mercy makes me whole again.
[Pre-Chorus]
Strip my doubts, my pride away,
Lead me to eternal day.
[Chorus]
O God, hear my cry,
Lift my soul to the endless sky.
All I am, I give to You,
In the light, my heart is true.
[Final Chorus]
O God, hear my cry,
Lift my soul to the endless sky.
All I am, I give to You,
In the light, my heart is true.
Song Meaning
“Soliloquy (Piano Sessions Version)” gathers the central movement of Augustine’s Soliloquies into a final act of surrender. Questions remain raw, tears and weakness are acknowledged, and reason has not made the seeker self-sufficient. Yet the dialogue has clarified the desire beneath every question: to know God and the soul, to be stripped of pride and error, and to be led into a truth that does not die. The song translates that desire into direct prayer, asking mercy to turn shadow into light and pain into a place of transformation. In this piano arrangement, the ending feels less like a triumphant conclusion than a quiet consent to continue. The inquiry has not exhausted its subject; it has taught the heart where to entrust itself. As a late-album return to Soliloquies, the track binds questioning and devotion together, suggesting that honest reason reaches its proper depth when it becomes humble enough to pray.
Song Inspiration
Augustine’s Soliloquies, especially its sustained prayer for knowledge of God and the soul, purification from pride and doubt, mercy, illumination, and confidence in immortal truth.
From the Source
Supporting passages from the Augustinus Vox Standard Version (AVSV). Select a source to read it in context.
I ask only this of your most excellent mercy: convert me wholly to you; cause nothing in me to resist as I tend toward you; and command me, while I conduct and carry this very body, to be pure, great-souled, just, and prudent, a perfect lover and recipient of your wisdom, and a worthy dwelling and inhabitant of your most blessed kingdom.
Be of good courage. God will be present, as we already perceive, for us who seek him—the God who promises after this body something most blessed and most full of truth, without any falsehood.
In the second book, however, the immortality of the soul is treated at length, but the matter is not completed.
