Song Meaning
“Truth Never Dies” introduces Augustine’s central argument in On the Immortality of the Soul: bodies and visible things change, but the truths understood by the mind do not change with them. Mathematical relations, rational principles, and the truths contained in genuine disciplines are not created by the individual thinker and do not grow old with the body. Augustine uses this permanence to ask what it reveals about the soul that knows them. The song turns that philosophical argument into the image of an undying flame.
