Lyrics

[Intro – driving guitar riff, heavy drums]

[Verse 1]

Hands may falter, voices break,

Bodies stumble with every weight.

But deep inside, the aim holds true,

The will that drives what flesh can’t do.

[Chorus]

Unshaken will, the fire inside,

Moving the world while it stands in time.

Through every change, it’s steady still,

The soul endures with unshaken will.

[Verse 2]

Craftsmen labor, tools grow worn,

Songs are silenced, yet hope is born.

The steady heart that leads the way,

Holds its course when the world decays.

[Chorus]

Unshaken will, the fire inside,

Moving the world while it stands in time.

Through every change, it’s steady still,

The soul endures with unshaken will.

[Solo – guitar solo, sharp bends and fast runs, echoing resilience]

[Chorus]

Unshaken will, the fire inside,

Moving the world while it stands in time.

Through every change, it’s steady still,

The soul endures with unshaken will.

[Chorus]

Unshaken will, the fire inside,

Moving the world while it stands in time.

Through every change, it’s steady still,

The soul endures with unshaken will.

[Outro – pounding drums and sustained guitar chord fade]

Song Meaning

“Unshaken Will” reflects Augustine’s discussion of the soul as a mover of the body. A craftsman may move his hands, tools, wood, or stone through a sequence of changing actions while maintaining one steady intention: to complete the work. Augustine observes that bodily movement unfolds through time, requiring memory of what has begun, attention to what is happening, and expectation of the goal. Yet the intention directing the movement can remain fixed while everything being moved changes. The song turns this into the image of an inner will holding its course while the body falters and the world shifts. The argument does not claim that every human decision is perfectly constant. It shows that what directs bodily change need not itself be changed or destroyed in the same way as the body it moves.

From this we now gather that something can cause changeable things to move without itself being changed.

Therefore, if the soul moves bodies and some change in them results, even though its intention is directed toward that change, we need not suppose that the soul is thereby necessarily changed and for that reason dies.
