“When the Mind Climbs Higher” follows Augustine’s insistence that the soul must rise above a cramped view of reality. In On Order, Augustine compares our confusion to someone staring at one tiny tile in a mosaic and condemning the whole design because he cannot see the full picture. The mind has to climb higher, not in pride, but in disciplined humility. From below, events look tangled, unjust, or meaningless.
