# Track 1: Noli Aemulari

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/noli-aemulari/

## Lyrics

[Verse 1]

In the quiet of the morning,

when my heart begins to rise,

I see shadows of the proud ones

slipping out behind their lies.

I have walked that road of envy,

chasing crowns that never stay—

but a whisper in the silence

calls me toward a brighter way.

[Verse 2]

Turn my eyes from the restless fire,

from the anger in the street.

Teach my soul a steadier rhythm,

let my bitterness retreat.

I don’t need the praise of the fading night—

I want the peace that holds the light.

[Chorus]

Noli aemulari—

let the wicked go their way.

I will trust in the One who keeps me,

I will stand when the storms betray.

Noli aemulari—

I will quiet my trembling heart.

For the gentle road is stronger still,

and the righteous never fall apart.

[Verse 3]

When the voices of the frantic

try to draw me into chase,

I remember who is guiding,

I remember who gives grace.

All the noise of hollow victories,

all the fury and the fight—

cannot steal the hope within me,

cannot dim the rising light.

[Chorus]

Noli aemulari—

let the wicked go their way.

I will trust in the One who keeps me,

I will stand when the storms betray.

Noli aemulari—

I will quiet my trembling heart.

For the gentle road is stronger still,

and the righteous never fall apart.

[Instrumental]

[Verse 4]

I will dwell in the land of mercy,

feed on faithfulness again.

I will wait for the dawn of justice,

I will walk where the peace begins.

And when envy calls me backward,

I will choose the higher flame—

for the meek inherit glory,

and the humble bear His name.

[Chorus]

Noli aemulari—

let the wicked go their way.

I will trust in the One who keeps me,

I will stand when the storms betray.

Noli aemulari—

I will quiet my trembling heart.

For the gentle road is stronger still,

and the righteous never fall apart.

## Song meaning

"Noli Aemulari" opens the album with a quiet struggle against envy. The singer watches proud and dishonest people chase praise, crowns, conflict, and hollow victories, and admits that he has walked that same road. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's Commentary on Psalm 36, the song turns the Psalm's command, "Do not envy evildoers," into a personal prayer for freedom from bitterness. Ambrose warns that the apparent success of the wicked fades quickly like grass. The lyrics answer that warning by choosing a steadier rhythm: trust in God, faithfulness, patience, mercy, and the peace promised to the meek. The repeated Latin phrase becomes a way of calming the trembling heart whenever envy calls it backward. The "gentle road" is not weakness. It is the stronger path because it refuses to let anger and rivalry determine the soul's direction. As the opening track, the song begins Augustine's imagined catechetical journey with a basic moral turning: away from restless comparison and toward the God who keeps, guides, and gives grace.

## Song inspiration

Saint Ambrose's Commentary on Psalm 36, especially his warning against envying evildoers, surrendering anger, trusting God, feeding on faithfulness, and seeking the peace promised to the meek.

## Song style

# Track 2: Two Ways

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/two-ways/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

There's a path that winds in shadow,

and a path that walks in light.

Every soul must stand between them

when the day divides the night.

[Verse]

I have felt the pull of darkness,

heard the laughter in its call-

but the root that drinks from mercy

is the one that will not fall.

Blessed is the one who lingers

where the words of wisdom stay,

planting hope beside the river

that will carry fear away.

[Chorus]

Two ways stand before me,

only one will lead me home.

One is dust and fading footsteps,

one is life in fields of gold.

Two ways rise within me-

teach my trembling heart to choose

where the righteous find their gladness,

where the wicked's schemes refuse.

[Verse]

Not a seat among the scoffers,

not a road that bends to pride-

but a heartbeat shaped by goodness

like a tree the storms can't hide.

When the wind of judgment passes,

only truth will still remain;

all the chaff the world has trusted

scatters into dust again.

[Chorus]

Two ways stand before me,

only one will lead me home.

One is dust and fading footsteps,

one is life in fields of gold.

Two ways rise within me-

teach my trembling heart to choose

where the righteous find their gladness,

where the wicked's schemes refuse.

[Bridge]

Let my footsteps walk in brightness,

let my roots in stillness grow.

Let my song be shaped by mercy

from the river's endless flow.

[Final Chorus]

Two ways stand before me,

only one will lead me home.

One is dust and fading footsteps,

one is life in fields of gold.

Two ways rise within me-

teach my trembling heart to choose

where the righteous find their gladness,

where the weary find their truth.

## Song meaning

"Two Ways" presents the spiritual life as a choice between a path of shadow and a path of light. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's Commentary on Psalm 1, the lyrics gather the Psalm's central images: the way of the righteous, the seat of scoffers, the tree beside flowing water, and the chaff scattered by the wind. Ambrose describes sin as a gradual movement. A person first walks according to corrupt counsel, then stands among sinners, and finally sits comfortably in what once seemed wrong. The song brings that choice inside the singer: "Two ways rise within me." The struggle is not only between two groups of people but between competing desires within the heart. One path offers pride, laughter, and fading footsteps. The other grows quietly beside the river of wisdom and mercy. Its roots deepen before the storm arrives. The song asks for more than a correct decision made once. It asks for footsteps, roots, habits, and even music to be shaped by the way that leads home. The final hope is that the weary may still find truth and become firmly planted in it.

## Song inspiration

Saint Ambrose's Commentary on Psalm 1, especially its two paths, the movement from walking to standing to sitting, the righteous tree beside flowing water, and the wicked scattered like chaff.

# Track 3: The Scrutinies

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/the-scrutinies/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

[Verse]

Search me…

try me…

see what lives within.

[Instrumental]

[Refrain]

Cleanse me…

free me…

let the light begin.

Cleanse me…

free me…

let the light begin.

[Instrumental]

[Verse]

Lay bare my hidden shadows…

call out every fear.

Lay bare my hidden shadows…

call out every fear.

[Instrumental]

[Final Refrain]

Cleanse me…

free me…

let the light begin.

## Song meaning

"The Scrutinies" uses only a few words because it represents a moment of exposure rather than a long lesson. "Search me," "try me," "cleanse me," and "free me" express the inward purpose of the scrutinies that formed part of baptismal preparation in the ancient Church of Milan. The Explanation of the Creed for Those Preparing for Baptism refers to completed scrutinies and to purification sought for both body and soul. Saint Ambrose's baptismal writings also describe the opening of the ears, preparing the candidate to hear what would be asked and to understand the answer that must be given. The lyrics imagine the kind of searching prayer Augustine may have entered during his final preparation for baptism. Hidden shadows and fears are brought into the light, not simply to condemn the candidate, but so that bondage may be broken and a new beginning made possible. The repeated phrase "let the light begin" gives the track its direction. Examination is not the destination. It prepares the soul for illumination. This is a historically grounded reconstruction of the Milanese process rather than an adaptation of one surviving sermon devoted entirely to the scrutinies.

## Song inspiration

The Milanese catechumenal scrutinies described in the Explanation of the Creed for Those Preparing for Baptism, with supporting material from Saint Ambrose's On the Mysteries and On the Sacraments concerning purification, examination, and preparation to hear and answer the faith.

# Track 4: Maker of Worlds

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/maker-of-worlds/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

Before the dawn had spoken,

before the deep had stirred,

Your breath moved on the waters,

Your voice became the first word.

[Verse]

Light rose from silent nothing,

breaking fear and breaking night.

Day by day the world awakened

as creation learned Your light.

Stars were hung in quiet splendor,

oceans gathered where You led;

every living thing was shaped

by the words Your power said.

[Chorus]

Maker of worlds-

You speak and glory rises.

Maker of worlds-

the darkness breaks, the day surprises.

Maker of worlds-

my heart is waking too.

Maker of worlds-

let Your light make all things new.

[Verse]

From the dust You called the gardens,

from the wind You formed the skies.

Every boundary, every season,

carried wisdom in Your eyes.

When the morning sang together,

when the newborn mountains stood,

all the heavens bowed in wonder

at a world You named as good.

[Chorus]

Maker of worlds-

You speak and glory rises.

Maker of worlds-

the darkness breaks, the day surprises.

Maker of worlds-

my heart is waking too.

Maker of worlds-

let Your light make all things new.

[Bridge]

Form me like the ancient morning,

shape me with the hands of grace.

As You ordered all creation,

bring Your order to this place.

[Final Chorus]

Maker of worlds-

You speak and glory rises.

Maker of worlds-

the darkness breaks, the day surprises.

Maker of worlds-

my heart is waking too.

Maker of worlds-

let Your light make all things new.

## Song meaning

“Maker of Worlds” moves from the creation of the universe to the re-creation of the human heart. Inspired by Saint Ambrose’s Hexaemeron across all six books, the song follows the ordered unfolding of the six days: light, sea and sky, plants, heavenly lights, living creatures, and the world’s goodness. Book I especially supplies the Spirit moving over the waters, creation by God’s command, the first light, and Ambrose’s insistence that the world is neither eternal nor divine. The later books widen the scene reflected in the lyrics through stars, oceans, gardens, seasons, mountains, and living things. The chorus then turns cosmology into prayer: “my heart is waking too.” The Creator who brought order from the ancient darkness is asked to bring grace and light into a divided human life. For Augustine’s imagined preparation, creation becomes a pattern of conversion. God speaks into chaos, separates light from darkness, and makes something new where confusion and night had ruled.

## Song inspiration

# Track 5: One Lord, One Christ

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/one-lord-one-christ/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

Before the ages opened,

before the stars could shine,

the Word was with the Father-

eternal, one, divine.

[Verse]

No shadow in His glory,

no lesser light or name;

the radiance of the Father

in perfect, equal flame.

He walked the road of mercy,

He wore our human frame-

yet heaven never dimmed Him,

and earth could not contain.

[Chorus]

One Lord, one Christ-

the brightness of the Father's light.

One Lord, one Christ-

the truth that stands against the night.

One Lord, one Christ-

no power can divide His throne.

One Lord, one Christ-

the Son who makes the Father known.

[Verse]

He came in humble weakness,

yet all things through Him stand;

the Word who shaped creation

now touched with human hands.

No creature born from nothing,

no lesser made degree-

the Son is ever with Him,

the Lord of majesty.

[Chorus]

One Lord, one Christ-

the brightness of the Father's light.

One Lord, one Christ-

the truth that stands against the night.

One Lord, one Christ-

no power can divide His throne.

One Lord, one Christ-

the Son who makes the Father known.

[Bridge]

Light from light eternal,

truth from truth the ages praise-

You took our mortal burden,

You rose in endless days.

[Final Chorus]

One Lord, one Christ-

the brightness of the Father's light.

One Lord, one Christ-

the truth that stands against the night.

One Lord, one Christ-

no power can divide His throne.

One Lord, one Christ-

the Son who makes the Father known.

## Song meaning

"One Lord, One Christ" is a sung confession of the full divinity of Jesus Christ. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's On the Faith, the song begins before creation, with the Word eternally with the Father. Christ is described as no lesser light, but as the Father's perfect radiance and equal flame. This reflects Ambrose's defense of the Son against teachings that treated him as a creature or as inferior in divine nature. The lyrics hold together Christ's eternity and his incarnation. The Word through whom all things stand takes a human body and touches the world with human hands, yet his divine glory is not diminished. "No power can divide His throne" expresses the unity of divine majesty, while "the Son who makes the Father known" preserves the personal relationship between Father and Son. The bridge gathers this into the language of eternal light, truth, mortal burden, and resurrection. For someone like Augustine, emerging from years of intellectual and religious searching, this would have been central to entering the faith of Ambrose's church: Christ is not one spiritual being among others. He is the eternal Lord through whom creation exists and through whom humanity is redeemed.

## Song inspiration

Saint Ambrose's On the Faith, especially his defense of Christ as the eternal and uncreated Word, the equal radiance of the Father, true God, Creator, incarnate Lord, and revealer of the Father.

## Song style

heavy classic 1980s rock, bright countertenor vocals, bold mid-tempo anthem; strong rhythmic guitars, shimmering synth leads, soaring chorus; confident doctrinal tone with clean melodic lines

# Track 6: Spirit of Truth

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/spirit-of-truth/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

Like a whisper on the water,

like a breath that breaks the night…

[Verse]

You move where hearts are open,

You speak where fear has grown.

You guide the weary pilgrim

to a truth that's not their own.

No shadow can deceive You,

no lie can stand the flame-

the world may doubt Your power,

but Your wind still calls my name.

[Chorus]

Spirit of truth-

come and shine through the dark of the mind.

Spirit of truth-

every secret You gently unwind.

Spirit of truth-

lift the veil that keeps us blind.

Spirit of truth-

steady every trembling mind.

[Verse]

You hovered over chaos,

You breathed on ancient seas.

You stirred the hearts of prophets

with the fire that sets them free.

Come shape my wandering vision,

come cleanse the thoughts within;

let every cloud of error

be undone where You begin.

[Chorus]

Spirit of truth-

come and shine through the dark of the mind.

Spirit of truth-

every secret You gently unwind.

Spirit of truth-

lift the veil that keeps us blind.

Spirit of truth-

steady every trembling mind.

[Bridge]

Lead me where the light is clearer,

teach me how Your wisdom sees.

Every step becomes a promise

when You move the heart to peace.

[Final Chorus]

Spirit of truth-

come and shine through the dark of the mind.

Spirit of truth-

every secret You gently unwind.

Spirit of truth-

lift the veil that keeps us blind.

Spirit of truth-

steady every trembling mind.

## Song meaning

"Spirit of Truth" is a prayer for the illumination and healing of the mind. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's On the Holy Spirit, the song presents the Spirit not as an impersonal influence, but as the divine presence who moves over the waters, speaks through the prophets, exposes deception, and guides the weary into truth. The lyrics repeatedly ask the Spirit to shine through mental darkness, lift the veil of blindness, gently unwind hidden things, and steady a trembling mind. The emphasis is not on receiving private ideas or inventing one's own truth. The pilgrim is led toward a truth that does not originate in the self. Images of breath, wind, water, flame, and light reflect biblical signs of the Spirit's work. Ambrose teaches that the Spirit sanctifies, gives life, distributes divine gifts, and shares the one power and majesty of the Father and Son. The song translates that theology into inward experience. Error becomes a cloud that must be cleared, fear becomes a place where the Spirit speaks, and wandering vision is reshaped into peaceful sight. It is a song about truth becoming not merely understood, but spiritually visible.

## Song inspiration

Saint Ambrose's On the Holy Spirit, especially his teaching that the Spirit is divine, life-giving, truth-revealing, prophetic, sanctifying, and active in cleansing the mind and leading the heart toward peace.

# Track 7: The Handing Over

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/the-handing-over/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

In the hush before the altar,

as the ancient words are raised…

[Verse]

A treasure from the fathers,

a flame that does not die-

the creed that shaped the ages,

the faith we hold on high.

Not written on the parchment,

but carried in the soul,

the promise of the kingdom,

the truth that makes us whole.

[Chorus]

This is the handing over-

the light that will not fade.

This is the handing over-

the rock on which we're made.

Hold it in your memory,

guard it in your heart.

This is the handing over-

the faith that sets us apart.

[Verse]

The Father ever-holy,

the Son in perfect light,

the Spirit clear as sunrise-

one glory, one delight.

These words become a shelter

when storms begin to rise,

a hope no fear can weaken,

a truth no doubt denies.

[Chorus]

This is the handing over-

the light that will not fade.

This is the handing over-

the rock on which we're made.

Hold it in your memory,

guard it in your heart.

This is the handing over-

the faith that sets us apart.

[Bridge]

Let these words be like an anchor,

let them steady every breath;

let them shine through every shadow,

guide my steps through life and death.

[Final Chorus]

This is the handing over-

the light that will not fade.

This is the handing over-

the rock on which we're made.

Hold it in your memory,

guard it in your heart.

This is the handing over-

the faith that sets us apart.

## Song meaning

"The Handing Over" imagines the ancient ceremony in which the creed was formally entrusted to those preparing for baptism. The lyrics describe it as a treasure from the fathers, a flame that does not die, and a faith carried in the soul rather than merely written on parchment. This closely reflects the Explanation of the Creed for Those Preparing for Baptism, which calls the creed a spiritual seal, a meditation of the heart, and a treasure to be guarded within. Candidates were expected to hold the words in memory and later confess them publicly. The song imagines Augustine standing among those candidates and receiving the faith of the Milanese church as something both inherited and personal. The creed becomes an anchor, shelter, light, and guide through life and death. Its confession of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is described as one glory, showing that these ancient words are not simply historical formulas but a vision of God in which the candidate is being formed. Because the surviving explanation has uncertain authorship, the track represents the catechetical tradition associated with Ambrose's Milan rather than claiming to reproduce exact words personally spoken to Augustine by Ambrose.

## Song inspiration

The handing over of the creed described in the Explanation of the Creed for Those Preparing for Baptism, especially the creed as an inherited treasure, spiritual seal, memory of the heart, and faith entrusted to the baptismal candidate.

## Song meaning

“An Ambrosian Creed” gives the album’s central confession musical form. Its backbone is the short Milanese baptismal creed preserved in the Explanatio symboli ad initiandos: Father Almighty; Jesus Christ; birth from the Spirit and Virgin; suffering, burial, resurrection, ascension, judgment; the Holy Spirit, Church, forgiveness, and resurrection of the flesh. The lyric is broader than that witness. “True God,” “one from the Father,” “Light from Light,” “through whom all things were made,” and life everlasting draw on Nicene and later creedal language, making the song a creative composite rather than a verbatim historical formula. Its recurring hook—faith rising from love—reflects the Explanatio’s teaching that faith should spring from charity. The title describes the Ambrosian or Milanese setting of the confession, not a claim that Ambrose composed every line. The Explanatio is transmitted under Ambrose’s name, but its authorship is uncertain. The track marks the point where instruction becomes personal confession: the candidate says “I believe” and enters the Church’s faith.

## Song inspiration

The Milanese baptismal creed preserved in the Explanatio symboli ad initiandos, a work transmitted under Ambrose’s name but of uncertain authorship, together with Nicene Christological language and later creed clauses. Its love-and-faith hook reflects the Explanatio’s teaching that faith should spring from charity.

# Track 9: Renounce

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/renounce/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

[Call]

Do you renounce the shadows?

[Response]

(I renounce…)

(I renounce…)

[Instrumental]

[Call]

Do you turn from every darkness,

every lie that held you bound?

[Response]

(I renounce…)

(I renounce…)

[Instrumental]

[Refrain]

(I turn toward the light-)

(I turn toward the dawn.)

[Instrumental]

[Call]

Do you leave the fading kingdom

for the kingdom that will stand?

[Response]

(I renounce…)

(I renounce…)

[Final Refrain]

(I turn toward the light-)

(I turn toward the dawn.)

## Song meaning

"Renounce" dramatizes the call-and-response by which a baptismal candidate rejected an old allegiance and turned toward a new one. The repeated answer, "I renounce," echoes the renunciations preserved in Saint Ambrose's On the Sacraments and On the Mysteries. The candidate rejected the devil, his works, the world, and its disordered pleasures. The song expresses these powers through shadows, darkness, lies, bondage, and a fading kingdom. Renunciation is not presented as an empty negative act. Each rejection is followed by a turn: toward the light, toward the dawn, and toward the kingdom that will stand. Ambrose describes the candidate physically facing the adversary and then turning eastward toward Christ. The lyrics preserve that embodied movement. This is one of the moments Augustine likely experienced personally during his baptism in Milan. After years of divided desire and spiritual wandering, the rite required a spoken decision. The old kingdom is left behind because another kingdom has appeared. Conversion means more than changing an opinion. It means turning the whole self away from one master and toward Christ.

## Song inspiration

Saint Ambrose's On the Mysteries and On the Sacraments, especially the baptismal renunciation of the devil, his works, the world, and its pleasures, followed by the candidate's bodily turn away from darkness and toward Christ.

# Track 10: The Just Man

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/the-just-man/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

[Verse]

Blessed is the one who waits in hope,

who trusts when night is long.

Blessed is the heart that leans on truth,

and walks the road made strong.

No boast upon his lips today,

no pride to lead him wrong-

he stands upon the quiet rock,

where mercy is his song.

[Chorus]

The just man walks in stillness,

the just man walks in light.

He holds the hand of mercy

through the turning of the night.

The just man finds his refuge

where the weary fear is gone-

the humble rise in courage,

and the faithful carry on.

[Verse]

Blessed is the one who knows the pit,

yet knows the lifted hand-

who waited for the Lord to come,

and learned to trust His plan.

His steps are shaped by kindness now,

his path by truth alone;

the world may shift beneath his feet,

but peace becomes his home.

[Chorus]

The just man walks in stillness,

the just man walks in light.

He holds the hand of mercy

through the turning of the night.

The just man finds his refuge

where the weary fear is gone-

the humble rise in courage,

and the faithful carry on.

[Bridge]

Teach my heart that quiet strength,

that steady, grateful mind-

to wait for You in patience,

and leave my fear behind.

[Final Chorus]

The just man walks in stillness,

the just man walks in light.

He holds the hand of mercy

through the turning of the night.

The just man finds his refuge

where the weary fear is gone-

the humble rise in courage,

and the faithful carry on.

## Song meaning

"The Just Man" draws from Saint Ambrose's Commentary on Psalm 39, beginning with the Psalm's repeated waiting for the Lord. Ambrose describes humanity trapped in a pit of misery and in the mud of sin, unable to pull itself free. Christ descends to rescue, establishes the believer's feet upon the rock, and directs the person's steps. The lyrics turn that rescue into the character of the just person: patient in the long night, humble rather than boastful, shaped by kindness, rooted in truth, and able to carry on because mercy has taken his hand. The "quiet rock" of the song reflects Ambrose's identification of the rock as Christ. Peace becomes home not because the world has stopped shifting, but because the believer has been established upon something stronger than the world. The bridge asks for a steady, grateful mind and the strength to wait without fear. The song therefore presents justice less as public greatness than as inward stability. The just person remembers the pit, recognizes the lifted hand, and learns to walk in the new path that Christ has made firm.

# Track 11: Blessed Are the Pure

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/blessed-are-the-pure/

## Lyrics

[Intro]

[Verse]

Blessed are the hearts made open,

blessed are the eyes that see-

those who chase no fading glory,

those whom quiet truth sets free.

In a world of restless fire,

You have shown a gentler flame;

purity that shines with courage,

love that bears a holy name.

[Chorus]

Blessed are the pure in spirit,

blessed are the ones who stand

with a light that will not falter,

with a hope that does not bend.

Blessed are the pure in longing,

blessed are the heart's desire-

for the ones who seek Your radiance

see the One their hearts require.

[Verse]

Blessed are the humble choices,

blessed every guarded sigh-

when the faithful turn from shadows,

lifting tearful trust on high.

Not by strength and not by striving,

not by any earthly pride-

purity is born of mercy,

born of You who sanctifies.

[Chorus]

Blessed are the pure in spirit,

blessed are the ones who stand

with a light that will not falter,

with a hope that does not bend.

Blessed are the pure in longing,

blessed are the heart's desire-

for the ones who seek Your radiance

see the One their hearts require.

[Bridge]

Shape my vision, make it steady;

clear my thoughts, renew my sight.

Lead me where the heart grows quiet,

teach me how to walk in light.

[Final Chorus]

Blessed are the pure in spirit,

blessed are the ones who stand

with a light that will not falter,

with a hope that does not bend.

Blessed are the pure in longing,

blessed are the heart's desire-

for the ones who seek Your radiance

see the One their hearts require.

## Song meaning

"Blessed Are the Pure" interprets purity as a clear and undivided desire for God. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's On Virgins and by the biblical blessing of the pure in heart, the lyrics focus on open hearts, renewed sight, humble choices, guarded desires, courage, and a light that does not falter. Purity is not portrayed as pride in personal achievement. The song explicitly says that it is not produced by strength, striving, or earthly status. It is "born of mercy" and comes from the God who sanctifies. This fits Ambrose's wider teaching that true purity involves the inward person: thought, intention, humility, love, discipline, and the direction of desire. The chorus joins purity with vision. Those who seek God's radiance are able to see the One their hearts require. The bridge therefore asks God to shape vision, clear thought, renew sight, and lead the heart into quietness. The song is not mainly about withdrawing from the world. It is about being freed from divided longing so that the heart can stand in truth, love courageously, and perceive God more clearly.

## Song inspiration

# Track 12: Springtime at the Dawn of the World

Song page: https://augustinusvox.com/song/springtime-at-the-dawn-of-the-world/

## Lyrics

[Verse 1 – gentle synth pulses, clean electric guitar picking]

Morning rose on fields unbroken,

Earth awoke without a scar-

Spring was written in creation,

Heaven's breath the guiding star.

Grass and fruit and budding wonder

Bloomed beneath the Maker's hand-

Like a promise for the ages,

Life emerging from the land.

[Pre-Chorus – soft but rising]

And the season told the story

Of the world He called to rise…

[Chorus – bright, melodic, wide open]

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Light upon the waters,

Grace upon the ground.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Hope began its growing,

Life became its sound.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Morning in the heart of God unfurled.

[Verse 2 – airy pads, smooth electric lead line]

Israel walked from chains to freedom,

Through the sea's unfolding way-

Baptized in the cloud and mercy,

Born to light on that same day.

Every year the story echoes,

Every spring the truth returns-

He who shaped the world from nothing

Still renews the heart that burns.

[Pre-Chorus – stronger emotional lift]

Every life that leaves its Egypt

Feels the wind of God again…

[Chorus – full band, shining harmonies]

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Light upon the waters,

Grace upon the ground.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Hope began its growing,

Life became its sound.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

[Bridge – soft breakdown, dreamy synths]

[Back to sung, radiant lift]

Every heart made new in freedom

Feels the spring within the skies.

[Final Chorus – key change, triumphant]

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Heaven breathing kindness,

Earth receiving gold.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Love that shaped creation,

Love that makes us whole.

Springtime at the dawn of the world-

Morning in the heart of God foretold.

[Outro – gentle fade, warm synth glow like sunrise]

## Song meaning

"Springtime at the Dawn of the World" closes the album with creation becoming a pattern of baptism and renewal. Inspired by Saint Ambrose's Hexaemeron (The Six Days of Creation), the song imagines the young world awakening in spring: unbroken fields, budding life, fruit, grass, light upon the waters, and the earth responding to the Maker's hand. Ambrose connects the springtime of creation with the season of Passover, when Israel left slavery and passed through the sea. The second verse follows that connection directly, describing Israel walking from chains to freedom, baptized in cloud and mercy. The song then brings the pattern into the present: the God who made the world from nothing still renews the human heart. Every life that leaves its Egypt experiences the wind of God again. This makes the track a fitting conclusion to Augustine's imagined journey through Milanese catechesis. Scrutiny, creed, confession, and renunciation lead toward the baptismal waters, where the old life is left behind and a new creation begins. Spring is both cosmic and personal-the first morning of the world and the dawn of a heart remade in Christ.

## Song inspiration
